Pushkar is a city in Ajmer County, Rajasthan, India. It is located about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) northwest of Ajmer and about 150 kilometers (93 miles) southwest of Jaipur. It is a place of pilgrimage for Hindus and Sikhs. There are many temples in Pushkar. Most of the temples and Ghats in Pushkar were built in the 18th century and beyond, because many temples were destroyed during the Muslim conquest of the area. Later, the destroyed temple was rebuilt. The most famous of the Pushkar temples is the red-topped Brahma temple built by Gurjar Samrat Pushkar. He is the father of Vedmata Gayatri, and Vedmata Gayatri is Kanya Chechi married to Lord Brahma. It is regarded as a holy city by Hindus, especially in the sex education, meat and eggs are forbidden in the city. Pushkar is located on the shore of Pushkar Lake, where there are many ghats for pilgrims to bathe. Pushkar is also important to Gurdwaras of Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh. One of the bathing Ghats is called Gobind ghat and was built by Sikhs to commemorate Guru Gobind Singh.

Pushkar is famous for its annual market (Pushkar Camel Fair), which features a commercial feast of cattle, horses and camels. According to the Hindu calendar (Kartik (month), October or November), it occurs during the seven days of autumn and marks Kartika Purnima. It attracted almost 200,000 people. In 1998, Pushkar received approximately 1 million domestic (95%) and international tourists throughout the year.
