The massive Mehrangarh Fort, which occupies the old city of Jodhpur, is one of the largest fortifications in India. It was built in the 15th century to protect the people of the famous "Blue City" because Jodhpur is still famous for its indigo blue. Famous houses are painted blue to dissipate heat.

Mehrangarh is built on an imposing outcrop, it is a remarkable architectural feat, with its massive walls almost impenetrable. Enter through one of seven ornate gates, including Jaya Pol and Fateh Pol (the latter still bears the scars from a cannon attack). The highlights of visit

include exploring the enchanting fort courtyard and network of palaces, as well as a museum with exquisite artifacts related to the Maharaja. Be sure to spend time in Jodhpur's historic center, famous for its eight city gates, a beautiful old clock tower, and numerous bazaars selling everything from vegetables to sweets, spices, and handicrafts.
