The impressive Agra Fort (also known as the Agra Red Fort) was built as a military building by Emperor Akbar in 1565 and later added by Shah Jahan. It is an interesting combination of Hindu and Muslim influences. The fort is only more than two kilometers away from the Taj Mahal and is entered through the Amar Singh Gate. Its low exterior wall and dogleg design are designed to confuse attackers. Once inside, you will see two interconnected large sandstone buildings, Akbari Mahal and Jahangiri Mahal, which are the largest private residences in the complex.
Other highlights include Khas Mahal (Private Palace) and Anguri Bagh (Vineyard) with ornate copper roofs, a puzzle-patterned Mughal garden with many wonderful fountains and waterways, as well as the emperor and Anguri Bagh they once provided. The private area of his entourage. Also worth noting is the octagonal Musa Manta, which later served as Shah Jahan’s prison until his death.
